How to create and embed a Map

Google maps allows you to work with others to place thumbtacks on a map in a way that will help volunteers in the group. Collaborating on maps is great and with the embed feature all followers can see what we're doing by looking at the work of a group of collaborators.

First you will want to go to maps.google.com
click on "Create Map"

Type in the name and description of your map then click "Public"

Click "Collaborate"

Invite collaborators to help you with your map by adding their email addresses in the invite box.

You might want to allow collaborators to invite more collaborators.
You probably don't want to allow just anyone to edit the map.

When you're done inviting collaborators and adjusting your settings click "OK"

Next click "Done"

Collaborators add to the map by signing into their Gmail before going to maps.google.com

If they are signed in, they should be able to do a simple search in Google Maps for whatever place they want to set up as a meetup spot.

After searching you might have a couple of results, just click the one you want on the map.

Click "Save to map"

Find the right map in the drop down list. Then click "Save"

Then click "View map"

 Click "Edit"

Click on one out of the list

You can type descriptions for each thumbtack on the map, you can even add HTML.

When you are ready, click "Done"

Click on the link button it looks kind of like a chain next to the little printer button.

Copy the embed code provided by Google Maps. Hold down "ctrl" and push "c" or just highlight, right click, copy.

Go to the Blogspot Blog at blogger.com
click the down arrow to the left of "View blog" and go down and click "Pages"

Type a little something in Compose mode, then click "HTML"

Paste the code. Hold down "ctrl" and push "v" or just right click and paste. Then click "Publish"

After clicking "Publish" you should see this screen. Click "View"

Now you can see you have an embedded map on your Blog, and you have a nice new tab at the top.
